Preventing
Pancreatic Cancer
Although
some factors, such as heredity and gender, cannot be controlled,
there are factors which can be controlled to reduce your risk of
pancreatic cancer. They include:
-
Eating a
Healthy Diet- Simply put, the more fruits and vegetables you eat,
as well as the less animal fat you eat, will help to reduce your risk
of getting pancreatic cancer. In limiting your fat intake, it
is best to keep the total calories from fat, per day, at no more than
30%. Also, saturated fat should not account for any more than
10% of your daily diet.
-
Maintain
a Healthy Body Weight- One way to reduce your risk is to be
conscious of your body's weight and do your best to keep it at a
healthy level. If you find yourself overweight, a slow and
steady rate of weight loss is the best way to attain a healthier
weight and reduce your risk of cancer.
-
Exercise-
Exercising will not only keep you fit and help you maintain a
healthy weight, but it has also been shown to reduce one's risk of
pancreatic cancer. Exercising of 30 minutes per day is
adequate, and if you are not used to regular exercise, you can slowly
add to your daily amount until you reach 30 minutes or more per day.
-
Quit Smoking-
The toxins in cigarette smoke have been shown to damage DNA vital to
the growth and replication of cells. By quitting smoking, you
are doing the "single most important thing you
can do to prevent pancreatic cancer. (Pancreatic Cancer (1))"
